After 47 years, we are delighted to welcome the BSP back to Cardiff, the capital city of Wales. The conference will be based at Cardiff University (www.cf.ac.uk)
located in and around the Portland stone buildings, parks and tree-lined avenues that form Cardiff’s magnificent civic centre.
Cardiff is Europe’s youngest capital but has a history dating back to the Romans. Cardiff Castle (www.cardiffcastle.com) is just 10 minutes walk from the University and the National Museum of Wales (www.museumwales.ac.uk) is literally next door to one of the three Biology Buildings. Slightly further a field is the much admired Millennium Stadium, and a short bus ride will take you to the famous Tiger Bay docklands. This area has recently been transformed into Cardiff Bay; host to the National Assembly for Wales and the iconic Welsh Opera House (underneath which is the Torchwood centre for those of you interested in Sci-fi. Who knows, if you are really lucky you might even catch filming of the latest Dr Who episode). With a population of just 327,500 (and more parks than any other European city), Cardiff is by no means a crowded city but there is still a vibrant night life to be experienced.
In addition to the usual Malaria sessions and the biennial Trypanosomiasis & Leishmaniasis Seminar, we will have a special focus on ecological and evolutionary parasitology. Topics will cover wildlife disease, veterinary parasitology, impact of parasites on host behaviour and co-infection biology, to name but a few. Retiring parasitologist, Prof. Richard Tinsley has also agreed to convene a session on host-parasite co-evolution. If you have any suggestions for specific sessions, particularly those with a multidisciplinary theme, please do not hesitate to contact us (cablej@cf.ac.uk and lelloj@cf.ac.uk).
Cardiff is an extremely accessible city (2 hour from Paddington by train and with frequent bus/taxi services to the local airport; www.tbicardiffairport.com/en/). This year we will have the registration/welcome reception on Monday evening to avoid potential problems with the increased costs and reduced accessibility of Sunday train/air services.
Registration and Abstract submission for the conference are now open.
Accommodation
Delegates are requested to organise their own accommodation. The BSP has teamed up with an online company to offer a one-stop accommodation service. The link below will take you a website with various options ranging from £18.50 to £140 per night. You are of course free to find accommodation independently if you so wish.

BSP Autumn Symposium - Progress in Paediatric Parasitology
23rd September 2010
The BSP Autumn Symposium 2010 will be held on 23rd -24th September 2010 at Durham University's Queens Campus in Stockton on Tees. Run in conjunction with the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, we are stretching the programme over 2 days beginning after lunch on the 23rd and finishing after lunch on the 24th. This approach is being taken to allow people travelling from a distance to spend just one night away from home whilst being able to attend an evening social event. The talks will be given by invited speakers and we will also run a poster session.
