Public Engagement
Parasitology is a subject that often fascinates school children and, as part of our new website, the BSP is keen to provide resources for students, teachers and the public with an interest in parasitic diseases.
Factsheets
We plan to make a number of factsheets available from these pages that anyone can download and use as a basis for further reading. It is important that these resources represent the diverse range of interests of all the BSP membership. This is where you can help!
Below, you can download an example, as well as a template file that we’d encourage you to complete based on your area of expertise. Feel free to modify the text boxes and images as appropriate. Of course, this is an excellent opportunity to highlight your research and describe its importance. Be sure to include colourful pictures and easy-to-understand writing so that they are interesting to as many people as possible (ideally, these should be written such that 15-16 year old biology students can understand them).
Once completed, return to us atand we’ll do our best to include as many as possible in our new website.
View a PDF example of a factsheet and download the Powerpoint template file for you to complete on the left hand side of the page.
Other ways to get involved
We also want to develop a collection of other opportunities for public-engagement and would be keen to hear from you if you have any ideas. In the near future, we hope to develop a collection of outreach resources that BSP members can use in visits to schools, open lectures, science fairs, etc. These might include simple experiments, interesting parasite specimens or a Powerpoint presentation template. If you are keen to be involved and make suggestions, then get in touch. Again, its important that these represent the range of expertise of BSP members, so please help us to develop this exciting part of the BSP website.
